After the journey led partly through hailstorms and also in the run-up the weather was not exactly optimal, our expectations of the diving conditions were already somewhat dampened in advance. We met on the first evening together at the crackling fireplace. Tobi P, Fred and Tibor were already there and had already dived some caves, so they could report about the current conditions. Their report was more positive than we feared.

We stayed at Domaine de Gayfie for this tour, where we occupied a total of 3 houses. The dining room of the largest house (18) served as a common meeting place for planning, discussing and chatting, but was also used as a battery charging station.

The early group (Tobi P, Fred and Tibor) made the first check dives, each OC with a stage and maximum penetration of 250m. On Sunday they dived the Ressel at low flow and moderate visibility of 4-6m. On Monday followed the Landenouse at very low flow and very good visibility (10-15m). Then on Tuesday the St. Georges with hardly any flow, the visibility was 5-7m.

The first thing the newcomers wanted to do was to go to the Cabouy for a warm dive. When we arrived at the spring pot, we were amazed to see that the fence was gone and the bushes around the water were removed. We are excited to see what happens there.

The spring pot was bubbling and flowing down almost the entire width. Visibility appeared good, so we decided to go through.

After we had brought all the material into the pool together, Robin and Tibor dove down first. By the time Peter and Manu were descending 15 minutes later, the first team had already returned and reported 1-1.5m visibility. Manu and Peter then took advantage of the spring pond to make a small round.

A bit disappointed that we couldn't start our dives, we went to a supermarket and stocked up on red wine, cheese and steaks.

In the evening Roland and Marc joined the group. They had not managed to tear themselves away from work earlier and had therefore missed the disappointing Cabouy attempt. In the evening, as is good tradition, there was a lot of gossip.

The next morning an unpleasant surprise awaited us: Tim's car had a flat tire. Thanks to Paul's help, the wheel lock could be cracked with "big" tools, and the tire was quickly changed. In Cajarc he got the tire patched at the nice car mechanic for 10€. This diving day started a little later.

Another destination was the Ressel. The flow in the river made it difficult to reach the cave entrance even with Scooter, but from there the flow was then moderate. In the cave we found a chaotic line situation. From the shaft on, most of the lines were torn. Because of all the patching, we didn't quite make it to the deep T. Penetration all the way to the biwack hall was out of the question.

Manu and Peter, otherwise on the Swabian Alb occasionally also in dry caves on the way, discovered at the roadside a larger hole in the mountain and suspected an entrance to a dry cave. This was home to some bats and small dripstones on the ceiling. It ended already after 20m of tight climbing.

To sum up, we were lucky with the weather, a little colder in the middle of the week, hardly any precipitation and in the sun to endure.

In this sense,

Your Cavebase
