Start of the year on Lake Thun

Team: Steffen K., Max, Marcel, Steffen B.

Actually, we wanted to go to Italy over the Epiphany weekend and start the new year at the Fontanazzi and Oliero. Unfortunately, like last year, the weather put a spoke in our wheel. So we decided at short notice to go to Lake Thun in Switzerland for 3 days. Four of us rented a vacation apartment in Interlaken and arrived on Friday evening/night.

For Saturday the Bätterich was on the program. What better way to start a diving year than with a cave dive ?.

So we drove to the parking lot, set up our equipment and dived to the cave. Here it also started directly. While Max and Steffen B. dived to about 50m depth, Steffen K. and Marcel unfortunately had to turn around a little earlier due to a technical defect. After the dive we shared our impressions of this cave with some other cave divers and met Markku Diedrich by chance, with whom we directly exchanged ideas about some dive spots. We spent the evening with delicious cheese fondue and talking shop.

The next day deep diving was on the agenda. For this we went to the dive site Fischbalme. Max had been told by Derk Remmers that there is an old habitat of Oliver Isler at about 140-150m. Max and Steffen B. wanted to search for it. Meanwhile Marcel and Steffen K. prepared for a 100m dive. It should be the first 100m dive of Marcel. After a little over 100 minutes of diving both teams were out of the water again. Max and Steffen reported about the habitat and Marcel was proud to have made his first 100. In the evening we had some pasta and pizza and walked a bit through Interlaken.

Monday was already our last day. On recommendation of Markku we went to the Guntenbad. Here diving is only allowed in the winter months. The dive site slopes down in several steps. Steffen B. and Max dived here again to 75m while Marcel and Steffen K. did a leisurely dive to 50m. After both teams were out of the water again, the vehicles were loaded and we headed home.
