Dolce Vita - 2017

A week of cave diving with Cavebase was coming up, everyone was highly motivated because there were many interesting destinations, ideas and projects in Eastern Europe. Everyone was eager to get their CCRs in the water and dive. The only one who didn't want to this week was the weather god and so there were thunderclouds all over Europe with a lot of rain. Everyone who has ever been diving in a cave knows that these are very bad conditions and so we could not dive our destinations. So what to do with the approved vacation, motivated divers and packed cars, an alternative had to be found. So we decided without further ado to go to Lake Garda, which is of course also diveable in rainy weather.

Day 1 - 5

Once we arrived there, we were greeted by fabulous visibility, which, thanks to the bright rocks and our powerful dive lights, made the mighty steep walls seem all the more impressive. With Scooter and Trimix it was easy for us to explore the dive sites beyond 100m, the warm water temperatures made the dives very pleasant. An ideal training area, not for nothing world record attempts are constantly made here. Our favorite site was definitely Tempesta, but there is still much to discover and we will definitely be back.

Day 6/7

On the way back we stopped for two days in Valstagna. Our connections in northern Italy gave us the tip that the Fontanazzi was probably diveable despite rain, that we did not want to miss. Most of us have been to the Fontanazzi before, but the absolute novelty this time was the JJ and we were still a little unclear whether a JJ diver fits through the entrance restriction as easily as a D12 or KISS diver. After the first dive this was quickly clarified, after a few minutes all divers were through the constriction and all had quickly found fun to wind through the restriction. We had two very nice dives in this beautiful cave even if the visibility was only about 3m.

So we made the best of the situation and had nice challenging dives and of course got the desire for more.

In this sense,

Your Cavebase
