Cassis 2015

After the winter season is coming to an end and we have a lot planned for this year, it was high time to spend time under water in caves and not only in German lakes. Therefore, we made us for the long weekend to 1 May on the French Mediterranean. The goal was to celebrate Labor Day by hauling diving equipment and cave diving. At the same time the time should be used to get to know interested cave divers.

With two nice residences in Cassis, the base camp was quickly identified. On the plan were the Bestouan and the Port Miou, so that for all in the team, from the small OC-brick on foot to the RB with electric buoyancy aid, the suitable dive should be there. With optimal weather conditions, we unfortunately found that the cave conditions were not the best. In both caves there was a strong flow on site on the three diving days, so that the Bestouan was diveable, but due to the miserable visibility conditions not really inviting for extensive dives. Also the Port Miou was not well-disposed and so we had to stop at the dam. Everyone who wanted was allowed to try diving through the tubes once without success. As an observer of the unsuccessful attempts, it is always fascinating to see what power a mass of water can develop when it is forced through a narrow tube.

Even though most of the personal goals could not be achieved due to the cave conditions, this did not dampen the mood. After all, in addition to the fantastic caves, the south of France is known for its breathtaking scenery and savoir vivre. So, with summer weather conditions, a few convivial evenings with a great crew in the lively port of Cassis or in the quiet garden were added. Conclusion of the first Cavebase trip in 2015 is that with two days of travel, 3 days of diving and moderate conditions in the caves, we had a blast and we are hot for the upcoming projects.

Keep your fingers crossed that the conditions will be better for the upcoming projects.

In this spirit,
